Continuous Improvement has become a catch phrase of Western business managers in the last decade of the Twentieth Century. Managers consume books and articles that tout Continuous Improvement as the salvation of American Industry in a globally competitive marketplace. This paper is focused on presenting why continuous improvement is important but not sufficient to the times we face. It is necessary to go beyond the idea of improving on what exist and to move to creating what does not yet exist nor has yet been conceived of—to work on development and regeneration. The problem with this demand is, that most Western companies don't have a culture that can fully value such aspirations, much less an understanding of how to create one.
